or, Citadelle Henri Christophe, or simply the Citadelle (in English, spelled Citadel), is a large mountaintop fortress located in northern Haiti, approximately 17 miles south of the city of Cap-Haïtien and five miles uphill from the town of Milot. It is the largest fortress in the Western Hemisphere.UNESCO designated it a World Heritage Site in 1982—along with the nearby Sans-Souci Palace. Henri Christophe built the Citadel after Haiti gained independence from France at the beginning of the 19th century.[1]
The massive stone structure was built by up to 20,000 enslaved workers between 1805 and 1820 as part of a system of fortifications designed to keep the newly-independent nation of Haiti safe from French incursions. The Citadel was built several miles inland, and atop the 3,000 ft. Bonnet a L’Eveque mountain, to deter attacks and to provide a lookout into the nearby valleys. Cap-Haïtien and the adjoining Atlantic Ocean are visible from the roof of the fortress. Anecdotally, it is possible to sight the eastern coast of Cuba, some 90 miles to the west, on clear days.
-------------Haitians go to the polls on 7 February to vote in the long-awaited presidential and legislative elections. The vote was postponed four times because of ongoing logistical problems and security fears.
However, with less than a week to go, some electoral officials are warning that the difficulties which caused the previous delays have not been resolved.
Haiti has been governed since 2004 by interim authorities led by President Boniface Alexandre and Prime Minister Gerard Latortue.
Voters will choose from 35 presidential hopefuls. Members of the interim government are barred from running.

Things in Haiti are becoming very bad. There is an outrage going on right now where people are participating in horrible crimes against everyone else, and it is ruining the environment and ultimately making the beautiful side of Haiti into an overall rough country. People are burning down buildings, cars, and the tires from the cars that are burned become infested into the airways and pollute the air passageways more than ever, ruining the beauty of Haiti itself. Something needs to be done to prevent this, and something needs to be done fast.
